What is the pH of Water?
pH is a measure of the acidity / base value in a solution. What is the pH of Distilled Water?
Distilled water is the purified form of the water. If we consider the pH as 7 then then the water is not acidic or basic. Distilled water occurs from boiling the water and having a purified form of it. The result of the pH level of distilled water is 7.
However as the water absorbs the carbon dioxide in the air the water becomes more acidic. So the pH value becomes 5.8. In other words distilled water is eliminated from ions and minerals to become the purest form of it, however at the end it is not certain or %100 pure water that have the pH level of 7.
What is the pH of Tap Water?
The mostly used water during daily life is tap water. So the pH level of tap water is also important. In some countries it is common to use tap water or drink tap water but some countries or people refrain from using tap water for hygiene reasons especially for chlorine however the human body can tolerate chlorine that’s why people continue using tap water. pH of water is scaled from 0 to 14 and lower levels below 7 is acidic, higher levels above 7 is considered as basic or alkaline. The tap water comes from the ground water systems that the pH level of tap water varies from 6 to 8.5
What is the pH of Ocean Water?
Due to human activity and industrial consumption there is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. pH is used in science and technology, and in oceanography pH is tracked. The ocean average pH is about 8.1. As it is mentioned before pH absorbs carbon dioxide and lowers the pH units.
According to research the ocean absorbs almost %30 of carbon dioxide in the air and as a result of this the pH level has fallen of 0.1units. When the ocean seawater absorbs the carbon dioxide then there will be an increase of hydrogen ions which make the water more acidic and lower pH level then affect the natural life.
How to Test the pH of Water?
It is easy to test the pH level of water and get the benefits of pure water. Whether the water is alkaline or not you can simply get a water pH tester or use litmus paper. After dipping the test strips into water the litmus paper will be coloured in a few seconds. If the strip turns to red it means the water is acidic and if it turns to blues it means alkaline. The litmus paper is used to detect whether the water is acidic or basic but can not show the level of pH. For neutral levels of pH the paper color will not change.
